Borderlands 3 Review
The world of Pandora is in trouble, and there’s money to be made in helping clear up some of this trouble, while creating your own special brand of trouble. You will take on the role of 1 of 4 different characters. Each character has their own personality, specialities, skills, and reasons for being a Vault Hunter. Once you have chosen your character you will be thrown into the thick of things. There will be plenty of loot, weapons, characters, and quests that will keep you locked into Borderlands 3 by Gearbox Software.
As much as I would love to give you every juicy detail of the main story, that would be a terrible thing to take away from you. All I will say is that you will be fighting against the Children of the Vault, an organization headed up by twins with a huge agenda. I will also tell you that this game is more than just the main storyline. There are tons of side-quests and challenges that you can take on that will reward you in all kinds of ways. It might be an experience boost, a rare item, a special currency, etc. I believe when everything was said and done I took on almost every side quest I could get my hands on.
Now one of the things I’ve always found entertaining in Borderlands games is the amount of randomized loot that is dropped in the game. What I mean by that is that there’s a very good chance when you kill something, open a box, a toilet, a washer, chest, or something else you can interact with, you will probably find some sort of item that you can use. The randomized part is the best part, the reason I say this is that there’s a good chance that the stats, effects, bonuses, and penalties are going to be different. This allows you to groom your character’s layout to be the most devastating, in your opinion. Do you have a thing for setting enemies on fire with your guns? Well, there are guns out there that do just that, and more. You will find grenades that can bounce, multiply, teleport, and more. I will admit that throughout the game you are going to be playing inventory shuffling (you have reached the max amount of items you can hold at a time, but you see a new shiny item that you like more than one you already have… and then this exact scenario keeps playing out because you’re nowhere near a place to sell stuff), and it will get frustrating when it happens, but most of the time that this occurs you already have some much cash that it’s not really going to hurt you all that much.
Another thing that has always been close to my heart when it comes to Borderlands games is the characters you’re going to interact with. There are so many over the top stereotypes calling around, as well as those absolutely psychotic characters that we’ve grown to love thanks to the previous games. Each character truly has its own life with their dialog, look, and overall mindset that is on full display throughout the game. There are those characters that will unease you because of their craziness, and there are others that you will continue to want to choke out (if only he wasn’t a robot, I’m looking at you ClapTrap), but overall the characters are just yet another layer of goodness in the game.
I’ve put in serious time into this game, and I’ve played through all the DLC that has come out, thus far, for the game, and I have to say that there are a couple of asinine quests/jobs that you can take on, there’s times where you might get lost on the map trying to figure out how to get a floor (or two) above or below you, but overall this is a high adrenaline extremely entertaining game that people who like FPS (First Person Shooters) have to play, hell even if FPS is not your forte there’s enough outside the shooting (or I guess I could better state it as mixed with the shooting) to keep you interested in what is going down throughout the game.
