Dredge Review

The seas are treacherous but they decided to spit you back out in a place called The Marrows. You will be given a fishing boat from the mayor, but you’ll have to work off the cost of the boat by giving a portion of your profits back to the town. Once that is done you’ll find that there is a darkness that lurks in the open waters, and will drive even the strongest of minds insane if you venture too much at night, and/or you just refuse to sleep.

This is all about fishing, well that’s not completely true, there’s also a mysterious tale to be told through lost artifacts scattered throughout the world. There’s also what many like to call inventory tetris to deal with. You will quickly find that different catches come in different sizes, and you only have limited space on your boat. You have to take into consideration your fishing gear, motor, and lights, as well as cargo space for all your catches that you’re going to turn around and sell, or perhaps a gift to one of the citizens of this world. There are also plenty of different types of fishing spots to try your hand at, and of course different gear required to fish those spots. I highly recommend investing in nets to help scoop up fish as you explore, it definitely can save you from ending up fishing late into the night. There is so much to explore in this game, and there is so much hidden for you to find. There are different catches that you can make depending on the time of day and some of those catches are aberrations, which are nightmarish looking creatures, but will turn you a tidy profit, or perhaps unlock something hidden in the world.

With this being all about fishing of course there is the possibility of upgrading your ship through items you uncover in wreckage sites. That means more space to put bigger fishing gear, motors, lights, and of course storage space for all those creatures you’re going to pull out of the water. I will warn you that running into obstacles will cause damage to your ship, and if you take enough damage you will sink to the bottom of the ocean, and there will be no one to save you this time.

I will fully admit that it took me a couple of tries to get through the game in its entirety, and even then after I conquered it I found out that there is more than one ending, and I didn’t get the best ending. That being said I haven’t come back to the game to try my hand at getting the best ending, but it's definitely a game that I can see myself coming back to if I’m in need of a game to play.
