Kena: Bridge of Spirits Review

A young spirit guide sets forth to a mountain shrine to better understand her powers, but along the way there will be numerous obstacles placed in her path. She will have to free the souls of a village which are trapped because of actions done by their leader, in an attempt to save the village. Kena: Bridge of Spirits is an action-packed adventure filled with a variety of enemies, powers, and a tragic tale that will have you glued to your seat from start to finish.

I want to start off by saying that I loved the look and feel of this game. It felt polished and engaging. The environments that you will have to traverse are gorgeous, challenging, and for the most part, as long as I wasn’t being an idiot, the way forward was always apparent. That being said, that doesn’t mean that the way forward is going to be easy. There are plenty of obstacles and enemies that will test you and cause you to have to think before you just run straight into danger.

Speaking of combat you’re going to be relying on your staff, however after some upgrades you will be able to use spirit energy to do a couple more attack moves and abilities to help you through some of the more difficult battles. The way to upgrade your abilities is through finding little spirits hidden throughout the world; these spirits, at certain numbers, will unlock the ability to customize your character even further. I may not have found all of the spirits in the game, but I did find that I was able to obtain a very large number of them, so don’t worry, you’re not going to have to go way out of your way in order to get all the necessary spirits.

This was a beautiful and at the same time sad story. You will have to regain the memories of certain villagers and return them to their masks. This will cause a boss enemy to appear, and if you defeat them you can finally release them. There is an elder that appears in the graveyard that will help fill you in on the specific special spirits that you have to save. You’ll also find that there are spirits that will unlock abilities that will help you access additional areas in the game. The game has a good pace to how it unlocks before you, and I felt that there was always something to keep me engaged in the game.

If you are looking for an action-RPG game with a great look, a great story, and a satisfying ending, this is the game for you. I highly recommend this game, and hopefully all that play this well crafted game will find as much if not more enjoyment out of it.
