Insert Coin: a Midway Games Documentary

Midway Games was one of those companies that was huge when I was growing up. It always felt like they were coming out with another hit, and possibly another game that I wasn’t going to be able to play. You see my parents were not fans of violent games, which of course don’t even come close to what goes as violent games nowadays, and so games such as the following were definitely not allowed in our house:

  • Mortal Kombat

  • Mortal Kombat 2

  • Mortal Kombat 3

  • Mortal Kombat 4

  • Killer Instinct

  • Killer Instinct 2

  • Total Carnage

There was one other reason why games were not welcomed into our house, until I was in highschool (PlayStation Era), there was a strict “no video game systems”. The kicker with this view was that I was allowed to play PC games starting in 1987 (yes I am ANCIENT in my nerd years, at least to some).

Now back on topic, there is a behind the scenes documentary about the rise and fall of Midway Games called Insert Coin. Fortunately for those out there looking to have a look at this video there are several VOD (Video on Demand) or as they call them Virtual Cinema options. I’m always a huge fan of documentaries that deal with the video game industry, so here’s yet another one I’m definitely going to sink my teeth into.
