Paradise Killer Review

In the future there is a world/society called Paradise, a realm of existence where all should find Paradise. The problem is that the “formula” needed to perfect Paradise hasn’t quite been discovered, so different ruling beings have become the architects for upcoming iterations. Currently in the game Paradise Killer, version 24 is coming to a close. AS a result most inhabitants have already made the transition through a gate that allows you to go start your life in Paradise-25. The thing is that something has happened, a high ranking leaders, "The Council",  have been killed, and the evidence is almost non-existent and because of that a person long exiled from living within Paradise has been called to return. You will play the character of Lady Love Dies, an investigation infatuated individual who is not afraid to step on EVERYONE’s toes if it gets her to solve any mystery.

This is a first person game in which you will be exploring every nook and cranny, talking to all beings that still exist in Paradise-24, and perhaps uncovering secrets that will change everything. TO be honest when I first started playing this game I took one look at the art style and didn’t think I was going to last very long. All of the characters that you interact with in this world are 2D cut outs. It was very jarring at the beginning to be walking around a 3D world and running into characters that had no real dimension, physically. It wasn’t until I started interacting with these characters and finding the stories, hidden agendas, and opinions of others that I started to get drawn in.

This game surprised me with the level of depth that went into the story of each individual character, coupled with the overall mystery of who murdered “The Council”. The more you interact with the characters the more is revealed about themselves, others, and of course who they want to point the finger at when it comes to crimes. As you go through the game you will uncover evidence that will link to several different crimes that have occurred. Discovering the fact that there is more hidden within this world than just the assissination hooked me and I couldn’t stop until I had found every scrap of evidence, and when the game ended for me I came REALLY close to having discovered every little thing.

As you progress through the game you will encounter the currency of this world, Blood Crystals, you will trade them in to reveal information, unlock abilities, and being able to fast travel. That last one is going to become HUGE when you’re closing in on that “finish line”. The world is quite big and after a while traversing on foot constantly is going to wear you down. Sure there is the chance that you’ll run into something worthwhile, but as you go deeper into the game you’ll be walking the same areas you’ve been traversing since the beginning of the game.

As you can see this game isn’t going to be for everyone, but for those willing to don a super sleuth hat, and are looking for a deep, twisted story, you’re going to need to get this game. It really did surprise me when I decided to give the game just a little more of a try, and I think that many of you out there will have the same experience that I had.
